Volunteering is a rewarding experience where you can make a difference.

The term volunteering covers many different activities. It can mean visiting an elderly or sick neighbour; giving blood; doing a sponsored walk; getting involved in your local scouting or guiding club; assisting a charity with its finances or administration; helping someone to read and write; planting trees – the list is endless.
Some people volunteer a few times a year when they have a spare day, whereas others give a regular commitment of several hours per week. Some people even volunteer full-time.
Before offering to volunteer, think about:
- Why you want to volunteer
- What type of voluntary work you would like (and wouldn’t like!) to do
- What skills, experience or enthusiasm you can offer
- How much time you can give
- Other practicalities, such as where and when you want to volunteer
Remember that if you decide to volunteer with an organisation, you do have certain rights and responsibilities. More Information on volunteering can be found on the Volunteering Ireland web site.
